A red haze turns Athens into a scene from a sci-fi movie

The skies turned orange in Athens, Greece, as dust clouds arrived from Africa on Tuesday (April 23).

Greek Pulmonology Association warned that the desert dust particles in the atmosphere are dangerous for those with respiratory ailments.

Those with respiratory problems and heart conditions were advised not to engage in outdoor activities, to keep windows closed, and to use masks when outdoors.

Due to the desert dust, visibility decreased in the city centre and the region, while the Greek Meteorological Service indicated that muddy rain is expected in northern and western Greece.
