For nearly 50 years, a Chinese fishing village lay abandoned on the remote Gouqi Island, one of almost 400 islands belonging to the Shengsi Islands
As part of the Zhoushan Archipelago, the island was once part of the largest fishery regions in China. But since the transformation of China’s east coast economy, fishing practices slowly diminished.

Over the course of its half-a-century vacancy, parts of Gouqi Island have become overgrown. A once bustling industrial village is now engulfed in ivy and moss, blanketed in an eerie yet serene coating of greenery.
