Despite how insanely cool an erupting volcano looks, it's certainly something you would never want to get near. Luckily, there's flying drones that can do that for us, giving us an up-close-and-personal view, minus the risk.

Piloted by Shaun O'Callaghan, the video above was captured using a DJI Phantom 2 quadcopter drone armed with a GoPro camera over Vanuatu's Mount Yasur volcano.

The volcano is considered to be one of the most active in the world, and according to VolcanoDiscovery.com, it has been erupting for at least the past 240 years.

The drone was able to steer-clear of scorching debris and lava at temperatures of up to 1,200 degrees Celsius, record the eruption and still make a safe return back to O'Callaghan.

The Phantom drove is commercially available and is one of the most highly regarded flying drones. Regular aircraft have never been able to get this close to an erupting volcano as smoke and debris pose a great danger to aircraft engines and helicopter blades.

Now you can't hear it in the video above since there was music added, but volcanoes can sometimes make a unique 'screaming' sound when they go off.

To hear a volcano scream, see the video below:
