Saturday, August 29, 2015, 6:40 AM - As the final weekend of August kicks off, almost every Canadian province can expect fair, near-seasonal weather conditions and clear skies.

All provinces except for one. Fortunately, the heavy downpours forecast for parts of British Columbia are much-needed following one of its driest, hottest summers on record. Find out what to expect in your daily weather round-up.

Atlantic Canada

  • Maritimes: A fair Saturday ahead across the Maritimes with above-seasonal temperatures. Sunday brings a chance for thunderstorms to Halifax, with some instability building towards Sunday night in Nova Scotia.
  • Newfoundland: Following a soggy Friday, fair skies will dominate parts of Newfoundland Saturday, accompanied by above-seasonal temperatures. As the weekend progresses, cooler temperatures make their way through the region. Showers are forecast to push into Newfoundland Sunday night.

Ontario & Quebec

  • Ontario: Close-to-seasonal temperatures make for a nice weekend across Ontario, but a pesky chance for isolated showers remains Saturday night through Sunday morning in southern Ontario. The majority of the province will be rainfall-free, with temperatures on the rise throughout the weekend.
  • Quebec: Fair skies and warmer temperatures through the weekend will wrap up August nicely before a spell of cooler temperatures forecast for Monday and Tuesday.

Western Canada

  • Prairies: The eastern Prairies can expect hot, well above-seasonal temperatures this weekend, with forecast highs close to 30 C for Regina and Winnipeg. Alberta can expect a gusty, windy weekend due to the same system bringing heavy rain to B.C. Fortunately, the weather pattern change will help create mixing, promoting better air quality. Gusts are forecast to reach 70 km/h for some cities in the Foothills.

  • BC: With special weather advisories in place for parts of southern B.C., plenty of much-needed rainfall is forecast for the Metro Vancouver area and Vancouver Island through Monday. The rainfall is tied to a series of lows coming down from the north. Weather Network meteorologist Brett Soderholm says the rain should help mitigate with air quality advisories, few of which have already been dropped Friday afternoon. Much of the province will also see cloudy skies and showers throughout the weekend, making for a wet (but necessary) final weekend of August. Cool temperatures, below seasonal, will be the overall trend for many cities.
