Friday, July 31, 2015, 7:29 AM - The August long weekend that goes by many names is almost here.

We've already talked about the kind of weather that's in store for Canada over the first days of August. Now here's your pre-long weekend brief for the clock watchers.

Atlantic Canada

  • Maritimes: Showers and isolated thunderstorms in the morning. More risk of storms in the afternoon in eastern and northern parts of the region. Warm temperatures in the mid-to-high 20s.
  • Newfoundland: Rain showers move into western Newfoundland in the evening, tracking through to bring light rain through the overnight and into Saturday. Chilly temperatures in eastern Newfoundland, but more seasonal temperatures for St. John's at the end of the weekend and into next week.

Ontario and Quebec

  • Ontario: Risk of scattered thundershowers for almost all of Ontario today, likely staying non-severe. Slight chance of isolated severe storms in the southwest and central Ontario. Winds will be the primary threat in that case, with a chance of small hail as well.
  • Quebec: Showers possible into Saturday morning, heavier rains around Sept-Iles and Gaspesie. Risk of non-severe storms as well, with isolated severe chance northeast of Quebec City.

Western Canada

  • Prairies: Risk for scattered showers and thunderstorms, particularly northern Saskatchewan, northern Alberta and Manitoba, likely staying non-severe. Western Prairies staying hot and dry.
  • British Columbia: Light rain continuing for the north coast. Risk of some isolated storms through the northern interior in the afternoon and evening, tapering off overnight to scattered showers. Southern B.C. remains dry. Temps in the mid-30s in the southern interior, close to 30 on the south coast.
