Child left in freezing car while grandmother gambles

Wednesday, February 18, 2015, 5:56 PM - A Brooklyn, N.Y. grandmother has been arrested after leaving her 5-year-old granddaughter in a freezing car while she visited a casino.

Renee Osby, 56, initially tried to bring her granddaughter into the Resorts World Casino Saturday but was told children aren't allowed inside the facility, the New York Daily News reports.

Security guards later spotted the woman alone in the casino alone and became suspicious.

When they surveyed the parking lot they found the girl sitting in Osby's unheated car. She had been alone for approximately one hour.

Osby told police she had gone inside the building to cash a cheque, but witnesses say she was playing the slot machines.

“Earlier today, Resorts World security observed a 5-year-old child in an unattended vehicle in the parking lot. They were able to safely remove the child from the vehicle and immediately called 911,” reads a statement released by the casino Saturday.

“The safety and security of everyone on Resorts World property is our number one priority.”

The girl has been reunited with her mother.
