Saturday, August 22, 2015, 7:36 AM - "Summer snows" seems like a contradiction in terms, but it's always a possibility in Canada, if usually slim.

Still, it happened in Alberta this week, while at the total opposite extreme of Canada's weather spectrum, the East Coast sweltered in deep humidity.

After all that, here's Saturday's weather brief.

Atlantic Canada

  • Maritimes: Multi-day thunderstorm risk over almost all the region, mostly non-severe as weak cold front stalls. Rainfall generally under 20 mm, highest in Nova Scotia. Lingering humidity making it feel like 30 in many communities.
  • Newfoundland: Western parts of the island can expect some rain and thunderstorms over the weekend. Cooling temperature trend into next week.

Ontario and Quebec

  • Ontario: High pressure keeps skies clear this weekend, with seasonal temperatures, except for a chance of storms in the extreme southeast Sunday evening, as well as a risk severe thunderstorms in northwestern Ontario as a system tracks in from Manitoba Saturday.
  • Quebec: Conditions will be pleasant, warm and dry, especially through southern Quebec. Eastern regions have a chance of thunderstorms late Sunday into Monday.

Western Canada

  • Prairies: Temperatures will slowly rebound on Saturday, with drier conditions in Alberta. Rain and strong winds move into Saskatchewan and Manitoba, with a thunderstorm risk in southern Manitoba near the border with Ontario.
  • British Columbia: Another day of dry, seasonal weather for the south coast. Rain is expected along the central and north coasts on Saturday.
