Monday, January 4, 2016, 10:39 AM - The National Transportation Safety board has finally released photos and videos of the cargo ship El Faro, three months after sinking in the Atlantic Ocean.
El Faro was en route to San Juan, Puerto Rico on a weekly cargo run when it encountered former-Hurricane Joaquin back in October.
Although it missed U.S. landfall, Joaquin still caused major devastation to the Bahamas, and was blamed for the disappearance of the El Faro.
The images showing the vessel at its final resting place northeast of the Bahamas were released on Sunday.
According to officials, investigators from the NTSB were not able to find any of the 33 crew members who went down with the ship.
“There were no human remains found whatsoever, and no personal effects whatsoever,” said lead investigator Tom Roth-Roffy, in an Associated Press report. “I think we found one boot.”
After suspending a search for the ship's "black box" in November, Roth-Roffy says they are considering launching another search of the wreckage in an attempt to locate the data recorder.
Investigators were able to locate El Faro's decks, but the ship's main 35-foot mast, which the recorder was attached to, is still nowhere to be found.
