Pet hospitals have received an increasing number of canine patients, as haze persisted in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province.
Haze, which is having an adverse effect on pets in some parts of China, has been lingering in Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang Province, since Oct 20th.
The smoke caused a two-month-old Labrador to have respiratory infection and had to be placed in a special 'treatment box'.
"The haze leads to respiratory infection, because noxious compounds in haze reduce the puppy's immunity. As a result, its respiratory system is infected, which leads to a cough," said Song Xudong, a veterinarian.
Older and young pets are most likely to suffer from respiratory diseases, according to a vet.
