Tuesday, November 11, 2014, 5:12 PM - An Arctic cold front will move through southern Ontario Tuesday night, bringing snow squalls to parts of the region Wednesday morning through to Thursday.

Environment Canada (EC) has issued snow squall watches for several communities, including Owen Sound, Midland, Parry Sound and western Algonquin park.

"The heaviest squalls could produce snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm per 12 hours along with reduced visibilities," EC says in a statement.

"Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably, changes from clear skies to heavy within just a few kilometres are common."

Motorists are being warned to slow down and drive according to the conditions.

On Tuesday, southern Ontario was flooded with mild temperatures, but the warm spell will be short-lived.

"A major pattern change is on the way for southern Ontario as the early October-like temperatures of Tuesday will be replaced by an extended period of below seasonal temperatures that will continue into late November," Weather Network meteorologist Dr. Doug Gillham writes.

"The weather pattern across the country for late this week and next week will resemble what we saw for much of last winter. Of course, temperatures will not anywhere near as cold as what we saw during the middle of last winter, but most of southern Canada will be well below their average temperatures for mid-November."
