Sochi 2014: Canadian snowboarder Maelle Ricker sidelined by wrist injury

Canadian snowboarder and B.C native Maelle Ricker, 35, suffered a wrist injury during a training session Tuesday. The athlete, who is expected to win a medal at Sochi, has been sidelined as she awaits surgery.
Despite the setback, officials believe that Ricker will be able to participate in the Winter Games, which kicks off next week.

"While the timing of this injury is very unfortunate, we know that Maelle is an incredibly resilient athlete that has battled back from several injuries over her career to accomplish great things for Canada," Canada Snowboard executive director Steven Hills told local media.
Ricker was the first Canadian woman to win a gold medal on home soil at the Vancouver winter games in 2010.
She also participated in the Nagano 1998 and the Turin 2006 Winter Games.
