Incoming storm threatens significant snow over eastern Canada this weekend
Special weather statements are already in effect across Quebec and New Brunswick for an incoming system that threatens significant snow through Saturday. Drivers are being warned that quickly accumulating snow could make for difficult travel and are urged to plan ahead to avoid the challenging conditions. More on the timing and impact, below.

FRIDAY INTO THE WEEKEND: STORM INTENSIFIES OVER EASTERN CANADA, SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENTS IN EFFECT
A deepening low pressure system is expected to intensify as it tracks into southern Quebec this weekend.
Heavy snow will develop north of the the St. Lawrence on Saturday, with an icy mix possible to start out in the Montreal area.
A widespread 10-20 cm of snow is likely as this system makes its way through, with up to 30 cm threatening areas further north.
"We'll have to closely monitor the rain/snow line however, as that will be critical in terms of how much snow actually accumulates," says Weather Network meteorologist Jessie Uppal, adding that a period of rain may interrupt the snowfall late Saturday.
NEW BRUNSWICK BEARS THE BRUNT OF THE SNOW IN THE MARITIMES
The storm will continue to track into Atlantic Canada later Saturday night and Sunday. Widespread rain with totals between 15-40 mm are expected for the Maritimes, as strong winds and gusts of 60-80 km/h blow through as well.
More powerful winds with gusts of 100+ km/h are expected for Cape Breton and the Wreckhouse area.
Central and northern New Brunswick will bear the brunt of the heavy snow with this system, with as much as 15-30 cm forecast for the region. Periods of freezing rain may also impact the area later Saturday night before changing back to rain through the overnight hours.
