Innovative climate change research centre will soon be unveiled in P.E.I.
The University of Prince Edward Island’s new research center will utilize drone technology to monitor how the province is being impacted by climate change.
A new facility that is being constructed in St. Peters, Prince Edward Island will soon become the University of Prince Edward Island’s new Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation.
The innovative building will feature research centres and will also act as a living laboratory due to its proximity to wetlands, forests, and coastal habitats that are rapidly changing as global temperatures rise.
Students enrolled in the university can obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in climate change impacts and adaptation, which Professor Adam Fenech says is the only program of its kind in the world.
The Weather Network spoke with Dr. Fenech in St. Peters to learn more about the program and how students are using drones to measure the impacts of climate change, which can be seen in the video above.
