On October 14, 2018, a huge flash flood hit the Aude region in the South of France. The area was overwhelmed with months worth of rain that fell in just hours.

The Aude region isn't a stranger to large amouts of rain during October. But they were certainly not expecting a quantity of rain that would make their infrastructure crumble.

The roads were closed and people were stranded on rooftops. Helicopters were dispatched to save the people, as they were not accessible by boat.

The water just took of the region, sweeping away anything in its path, including cars, bridges, and people.

Ten people died due to the flash flood. For more information about this what some say is a tragic, yet preventable, event, listen to today's episode of "This Day In Weather History”.
