PHOTOS: Intense storms strike the Prairies, spawn tornado in Alberta
Although the recent bout of intense heat backed off in Alberta and Saskatchewan Saturday, with cooler temperatures in place, the weather was far from quiet. In fact, it was rather stormy in some areas.
A low-pressure system situated in the far northern Prairies, with a trailing cold front behind it, sparked scattered severe thunderstorms in southern Alberta and Saskatchewan Saturday -- with sightings of the former's first tornado of the season.

Alberta is where the severe thunderstorms first fired up in the early afternoon on Saturday, prompting Environment Canada to issue warnings for the southern areas in the early afternoon hours, amid user reports of hail, heavy rain and gusty winds kicking up dust along the ground.
Shortly after the first batch of thunderstorm warnings, the weather agency issued tornado warnings for areas along the foothills as a thunderstorm was reportedly producing a twister east of High River, Alta. Though it hasn't been confirmed, visuals of the tornado surfaced on social media.

Meanwhile, severe thunderstorms made their way through southern Saskatchewan, also prompting Environment Canada to issue tornado warnings in the region a little later on Saturday afternoon. However, nothing has been confirmed at this point and no reports of any possible twisters have surfaced.
All tornado warnings in Alberta and Saskatchewan have since been dropped.
Southern Manitoba may also see storms fire up into Saturday night, but are expected to be very isolated in nature if they do.
