Hurricane Ike started as a tropical wave west of Cape Verde on September 1st, 2008. By the 4th, the hurricane reached peak intensity as a Category 4.

Ike made its way across the Atlantic and through the Gulf of Mexico before it made its final landfall in Galveston, Texas on September 13th.

As of 2008, Hurricane Ike was the second-costliest storm in U.S. history. Ike was responsible for 195 deaths and cost upwards of $38 billion in damage.
