It's designed to serve the nearby ski hills, but there's plenty to like about the view in the fall.

Canada is a wonderland for people hoping to take in the best the fall colour change has to offer.

Now, if you're prepared to make the journey, there's a new and breath-taking way to bask in those oranges, reds and yellows: Nova Scotia's Cape Breton Island, where a new gondola has opened up in Ingonish, around a 440-kilometre drive from Halifax.

It's destined to serve skiers at Cape Smokey, but the ride up is gorgeous at this time of year – and unique, given it's the only gondola in Atlantic Canada.

The gondola is also accessible, and less risky for children than a typical ski lift because the door closes, preventing them from falling out.
