The best places to see the northern lights in Canada

The Northern Lights can be seen from any region in Canada, we reveal the top spots with the best view.

It's a pretty magical experience, seeing the bright green and reds of the northern lights dancing across the black canvas of the night sky. While many people may think you have to travel far north to catch the lights of the aurora borealis, the truth is there are spots you can catch them in every province. All you really need is a dark and clear night sky and aurora activity.

The northern lights are actually caused by a collision between gaseous particles in the Earth’s atmosphere with charged particles from the sun’s atmosphere.

There are plenty of websites that can help you predict an active aurora night. Some of the aurora chasers we spoke with say they use Soft Serve News and the Aurora Forecast page to help them choose when to take their cameras out in hopes of catching the magic.

We had a chance to catch up with our Weather Network team from across the country to find the best spots in each region to see the northern lights.
