Recommended Action

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax andfloat. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in adirection following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face theshore and call or wave for help.

Description

* WHAT...Dangerous rip currents expected.* WHERE...Walton, Bay, Gulf, and Franklin County Beaches.* WHEN...Through late Thursday night.* IMPACTS...Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers awayfrom shore into deeper water.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Strong easterly breezes over the easternGulf will continue through Thursday, maintaining dangerous ripcurrent conditions at all area beaches. Winds will be in theprocess of decreasing on Friday, but high rip current risk islikely to linger. Over the weekend, lighter southerly winds willreturn to our beaches, but stronger winds over the distant Gulfshould generate enough swell to keep the rip current risk onthe high side.
