Nova Scotia man shows you how to make salt from seawater
It's not simple, but Colin Duggan is using water from the Atlantic Ocean to harvest sea salt in his own backyard. The Weather Network's Nathan Coleman finds out more about his Tidal Salt business.
When Colin Duggan is at Mahoney’s Beach, N.S., he doesn't have a fishing rod with him and he isn't hunting for seals.

So, what exactly is he doing here? Harvesting seawater so he can make salt.
He needs to separate the chunks of ice that came in with the tide, just enough to fill up his bucket.

"The higher the tide, the higher the salt content because that water is coming from the deep ocean," said Duggan.
His business, Tidal Salt, started on a whim six years ago when he brought a bucket of seawater home and began to make his own salt after watching do-it-yourself videos on YouTube.
