An expert weighs in on how to practice sun safety during a pandemic.
It's been a long winter, but spring is finally here, and as the pandemic continues, many of us are heading outside with half our faces concealed under a mask.
So — do you have to wear SPF protection under your mask?
Melanie Kinglsey, associate professor of dermatology at Indiana University School of Medicine, says masks don't typically provide a lot of protection from the sun, but ones with a thicker thread-count would provide a higher degree of it.
Even when wearing a mask that claims to provide high SPF protection, dermatologists still recommend wearing sunscreen underneath.
