Woman takes in nearly 100 'terrified' dogs, protects them from storm
A woman who runs a five-acre dog shelter in Nassau took in 97 'terrified' dogs to keep them safe from Hurricane Dorian.
In a Sunday Facebook post, Chella Phillips said the 97 dogs "are inside my house and 79 of them are inside my master bedroom."
"Each island [in the Bahamas] has an abundance of homeless dogs, my heart is so broken for the ones without a place to hide," she added.
Sunday also happened to be the fourth anniversary since Phillips founded Voiceless Dogs of Nassau, Bahamas, a refuge for homeless and abandoned dogs that she runs with her brother.
Phillips says she has cared for nearly 1,000 dogs to date. The refuge is a two-bedroom house with five fenced-in acres for the dogs to roam. It also doubles as her home.

Hurricane Dorian is expected to move “dangerously close” to Florida’s east coast Tuesday into Wednesday.
The storm caused extensive damage in the northwestern Bahamas, killing at least five people.
