Another person loses life at the Grand Canyon this week

For the second time this week, the Grand Canyon has been the site of a fatality.

The latest incident occurred on Thursday, when a Hong Kong man fell to his death after stumbling over a cliff while snapping pictures, according to a Grand Canyon West spokesperson.

He reportedly took photographs early in the day as part a tour group that visited the Eagle Point lookout area, which is where the death occurred.

The man was approximately 100 yards from the Skywalk, a horseshoe-shaped glass platform 4,000 feet above the canyon.

It is designed for the safety of visitors who want a different view to take photos of the canyon.

Eagle Point and the Skywall were closed for a period of time after the man fell, but is open again to the public.

Grand Canyon West issued a statement on the death.

"The thoughts and prayers of every Grand Canyon West employee remain with the loved ones of this individual and the members of the tour group," the tourist company said.

Regarding the first fatality, which was discovered on Tuesday, the National Park Service (NPS), rangers and special agents discovered the body near the southern edge of the canyon.

Vanessa Ceja-Cervantes, a spokeswoman for the park, told CNN the individual did not fall over the rim and the body was found in a forested area.

A statement said NPS and the Coconino County Medical Examiner are conducting an investigation.

"On average, there about 12 fatalities in the park per year, but a small percentage of those are from fatal falls," Ceja-Cervantes told the news agency.

"The causes of those deaths range from heat, to drowning, to medical issues and more. High elevation plays a role in some of the fatalities."
