VIDEO: Skaters glide on crystal-clear frozen mountain lakes
As winter sets in, some of the high Rocky Mountain lakes find themselves in a particular kind of sweet spot: When it's been cold enough for lake surfaces to freeze, but the cooldown hasn't been accompanied by snowfall to cover it up.
The result: A crystal-clear covering of ice on some of the most beautiful lakes in Canada, thick enough to safely skate on while surrounded by the boundless beauty of the mountains and forests.
As Kyle Brittain reports in the video above, it's popular with skaters, and for good reason. But aside from the mirror-like surface's beauty and mystery, it also has a peculiar effect on acoustics, adding an extra layer of fun for the musically-inclined.
