Heightened flood threat with days of heavy rain across Quebec

Prolonged unsettled pattern could see parts of Quebec on the receiving end of 100 mm of rain this week

It's certainly feeling like summer has arrived in Quebec this week, as the above seasonal temperature pattern continues to take hold as we kick off the month of June. Temperatures will soar into the low 30s on Wednesday, feeling closer to 38 with the humidex. That prompted a special weather statement for parts of southern Quebec, warning to take the necessary precautions when extreme heat hits.

With the heat and humidity, comes a building thunderstorm risk and a growing forest fire threat, with parts of the region likely to see storms bubble up through Thursday.

With high amounts of moisture in the atmosphere, heavy rain will be the main threat with thunderstorms that develop, which could result in some localized flooding.

The risk for rain will continue amid an unsettled pattern stretching well into the weekend, with some parts of the region on the line for as much as 100 mm by Sunday.

A line of thunderstorms and rain will track into Quebec on Thursday. Heavy rain will be the main threat with developing storms, with 30-50 mm forecast within thunderstorms.

The risk spans western sections of the province for most of the day, while storm chances increase across southern Quebec through the late afternoon and evening hours.

There is the potential for localized flooding amid the heavy rain, and strong wind gusts and hail will also accompany Thursday's storm threat.

Friday through Sunday: Unsettled, rainy pattern continues

The low will continue to bring unsettled conditions to southern Quebec on Friday and right through the weekend.

By the end of the weekend, between 50-100 mm of rain is expected.

While there will be some rain-free periods and even peeks of sun, as well, temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than seasonal, and some areas may even struggle to top 20°C when little sunshine is present.

Temperatures should trend closer to seasonal during the second half of next week, but overall near seasonal or cooler than seasonal temperatures are expected to dominate through Father's Day weekend. A warmer pattern is expected to return during late June.
