Rainy interruptions? Here's how to plan for your weekend in southern Ontario

Will southern Ontario be graced with more of this early summer-like weather for the weekend? There's a few things that could spoil some outdoor plans

The final weekend of May will feature both sunshine and showers across southern Ontario. There will be opportunities to get outside to enjoy pleasant late spring weather (especially Sunday), but the weather will also provide you with an excuse to take a break from the outdoor chores at times, too.

We were definitely spoiled last weekend with mid-summer-like heat for the unofficial kick-off to the summer season. This weekend will be closer to what we typically see during late May.

The weekend will get off to a spectacular start with sunshine, pleasant temperatures and comfortable humidity during Friday afternoon and into the evening.

However, if you are headed north for the weekend, you will definitely need a jacket Friday evening, as temperatures will fall into the teens across cottage country.

Saturday will be mostly cloudy with some peeks of sun possible early in the day. Passing showers are likely and a thunderstorm is possible, but a large part of the day will be dry.

Later during the afternoon, clouds will give way to some sunshine from west to east across the region. Saturday evening will be mostly sunny and pleasant.

Due to the period of cloudy conditions on Saturday, daytime temperatures will be cooler than we have seen in over a week, but near seasonal for late May.

Sunday is your better day to get outside

Spectacular weather will return for Sunday, making it an ideal day for outdoor activities.

Abundant sunshine is likely across southern Ontario and temperatures will be a few degrees above seasonal with widespread lower 20s. A few spots should reach the mid 20s away from the shores of the Great Lakes.

During Sunday afternoon and evening, we will see increasing clouds from west to east ahead of the next storm system, which will bring widespread rain to southern Ontario Sunday night and into Monday.

We will closely watch the timing of this system. If the timing speeds up, then we could have a threat for showers during Sunday evening, but that risk should be limited to areas well to the west of Toronto.

Cooler than seasonal start to June

Looking ahead to next week, we expect periods of rain during Sunday night through Tuesday and possibly into Wednesday. Temperatures will be much cooler than this week, hovering a several degrees below seasonal.

At this point it looks like temperatures will be near seasonal or a few degrees cooler than seasonal as we head into the following weekend, which marks the first weekend of June. It also appears that the weekend will include the familiar risk for passing showers, though it won't be a complete washout.

Be sure to check back this same time next week for more details on what you can expect during early June across southern Ontario.
