This East Coast city is on the verge of breaking all-time June rainfall record
An all-time rainfall record will be challenged in St. John's, Newfoundland this week
Feeling gloomy, St. John's? It has been quite a wet month for the city, with some all-time June rainfall records being challenged this week. There's a couple of low pressure systems on the horizon, which could tip rain amounts into record-setting territory.

"Currently, St. John's is sitting in fourth spot for the rainiest June on record, but with four days left for the month, and a soggy system in play, we could see a new record fall by July 1," says Matt Grinter, a meteorologist at The Weather Network.
Rain showers will begin for the Avalon through the overnight hours on Thursday, with more persistent rain moving in Friday morning. The rainfall continues through the day before gradually easing into Saturday.
So far, 186.2 mm of rain has fallen for the month. The record for the rainiest June in St. John's dates all the way back to 1891, when 198.9 mm fell.
That means, roughly 12 mm is currently needed to break the all-time record.
"It's already been the wettest June since 1993, so this will be a very close call," adds Grinter. "There's 16 mm of rain in the forecast this week, but some computer models do show lower amounts."
