Storms threaten Ontario's first weekend of summer, a look into early July

This weekend will offer a bit of relief in terms of the heat and humidity across southern Ontario, though with the rain and thunderstorm chances returning

This weekend across southern Ontario will feature the return of an all too familiar forecast, with occasional showers and thunderstorms likely.

While last weekend finally delivered our first dry weekend since early April, that was not the start of a string of dry weekends. This weekend however, will not be a total washout, either.

As we head into the weekend, Friday will bring some minor relief from the heat and oppressive humidity that has dominated the week. It will still feel rather muggy, but the humidex will stay below 40 across most of southern Ontario.

Cottage country will have the most comfortable conditions, with high temperatures in the mid to upper 20s and more noticeable relief from the humidity.

There will still be enough humidity for scattered showers and thunderstorms with torrential downpours across southern Ontario, especially south of cottage country.

During Saturday, very warm and humid conditions will surge north once again. As the warm front tracks from south to north across our region, it will bring the threat for showers thunderstorms with torrential downpours.

Areas north and northeast of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) will see an extended period of heavy rain through Saturday night with 50-100mm for parts of cottage country. Meanwhile, areas to the south of the front will see some sunny breaks.

Sunday's weather will highly depend on the timing of a cold front.

At this point, it looks like we will see a couple rounds of showers and thunderstorms, especially during the morning. Strong storms are possible with torrential downpours.

However, we will also see some sunny breaks during Sunday, especially later during the afternoon and evening.

Early next week will be cooler and less humid, though temperatures will quickly rebound for Tuesday.

Another cold front with rain and thunderstorms is expected mid-week, followed by a couple days of much cooler conditions for the end of the week.

First dive into the Canada Day long weekend weather, and it looks promising!

At this point it looks like we should see a seasonal and comfortable start to the Canada Day long weekend, but a warming trend is expected during the long weekend.
