VIDEO: Stunning 'ice volcano' captured on Lake Superior
Ice building up in peaks along a frozen shore of Lake Superior has created what appears to be a 'volcano' spouting water.
Video of what is known as an ice volcano was captured on Friday.
"Ice volcanoes are a conical mound of ice that forms at the edge of an ice shelf," said Matt Grinter, a meteorologist at The Weather Network.
"As waves hit the leading edge it carves through the ice, ejecting water upwards into the air. As this process continues, the ejected water continuously freezes, growing the ice volcano larger with each 'eruption.'"
While ice volcanoes can be fun to watch, make sure you keep a safe distance. They have fragile peaks and aren't safe to climb. If a person falls through one, there may be no way to escape.
