Precipitation rates intensified across the province, with residents on the Avalon and Burin peninsulas starting the storm with periods of ice pellets and freezing rain.

Heavy snow intensified on Friday, with blizzard-like conditions expected to make a mess of the roads. Overall, as much as 70 cm of snow could fall by Saturday across the region.

Given the anticipated significant snowfall, it is imperative to advise individuals to proceed with care during snow removal activities, as they may result in possible injuries and, in severe instances, cardiac events.

Here's a look at the situation so far, in photos.
