Lightning strike occurs during two-hour delay of U.S. women's golf tournament Friday

A scary moment took place at the U.S. Women's Open tournament Friday afternoon.

A lightning bolt struck a tree near the 18th fairway during a severe thunderstorm that moved through the area. It was reported that the storm halted play for nearly two hours.

The tournament, being held at the Country Club of Charleston, was suspended at 4:47 p.m. ET as storms passed through.

Play was already delayed when the bolt hit, which damaged a tree and ripped up its roots. The event resumed at 6:45 p.m., with players making their way on to the course to see how many holes they could finish before dark.
