The ice disk garnered much affair publicly in 2019, so the City of Westbrook was quick to bring its recent reformation to light

A floating ice disk that first appeared in the Presumpscot River in Westbrook, Maine, in 2019 has resurfaced -- much to the delight of local residents.

When a similar disk was spotted this month, the city quickly took advantage and brought it to light publicly, posting a video of the phenomenon on social media.

A similar spinning ice disk was captured in Quebec in February 2019.

According to Mark Battle, an associate physics professor at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, the ice disk occurs when a circular current underneath the ice creates a whirlpool effect.
