Thursday, July 5, 2018, 12:29 PM - A 16-year-old is lucky to be alive after a giant sinkhole opened up in the middle of the road in Renville, Minnesota Tuesday, swallowing the teen's car.

Drone footage shows the vehicle, nose down, in a hole that opened up following a bout of heavy rain.

The male victim escaped unharmed. The local sheriff's office is crediting that to his seat belt and the car's airbag.

The teen, who was on his way to work, escaped by climbing out the window.

"Another example of the power of Mother Nature!" reads a Facebook post by the Renville County Sheriff's Office.

"Remember, always BUCKLE UP; you just never know what situation you might encounter!"

Renville County Sheriff Scott Hable told InsideEdition.com road wash-outs aren't uncommon in the area, but it's "extremely rare" for a car to get caught up in one.
