Another round of thunderstorms target southern Ontario

Severe thunderstorm warnings are in place in southwestern Ontario less than a day after a violent storm raced through parts of the province, generating Ontario's third tornado of the season.

Sarnia, Rodney, Strathroy, St. Thomas, London and Windsor can expect to see wind gusts up to 90 km/h, bouts of "torrential" rain and hail potential Wednesday afternoon into the evening.

"Fast moving water across a road can sweep a vehicle away," Environment Canada warns in a statement.

"Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes ... take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches."

The weather agency is calling for potential local rainfall amounts of near 50 mm in an hour or less at the height of the storm.

"Stay indoors when a thunderstorm strikes. There isn't a place outside that is safe during a thunderstorm," EC adds.

While thunderstorms are expected across the GTA Wednesday afternoon into the evening, they won't be as strong as the storms seen across the region on Tuesday.
