Thursday, March 12, 2015, 8:30 AM - The mother of a baby left in a driveway in London, Ont., expressed remorse for leaving the child.

Both the child's parents have been charged.

Megan Sproul, 31, told CTV News she feels "horrible" about what happened. She says she was forced to leave the home "in a hurry", and passed out soon afterward.

"I didn't have a cellphone to call 911 ... and all I cared about was getting my son out of the house," Sproul told CTV. "I was just trying to protect him, and in the end I ended up hurting him."

When she awoke, she rushed into her truck, apparently believing her son was inside.

Instead, the eight-week-old baby was discovered by a neighbour in the driveway at 5:40 a.m. Tuesday morning, still in his car seat. He was in pajamas and was covered by a light blanket, in temperatures of around -5oC. After being checked out medically, he has been turned over to the Children's Aid Society.

When police arrived and entered the house, they found the boy's father, Craig Lush, 31, asleep inside. Police say his presence in the home was in violation of a probation order, and they allege he had been drinking.

Sproul herself was arrested earlier, at 1:50 a.m., on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

She has been charged with abandoning a child and failing to provide the necessities of life. Lush is charged with two counts of break of probation.
