Driver clocked at 226 km/h on Trans Canada Highway's snowy roads

Thursday, February 12, 2015, 1:58 PM - A 28-year-old man from Sydney, NS was clocked driving 226 km/h in a 100 km/h highway zone on the Trans Canada Highway Monday.
"Despite slippery winter road conditions yesterday morning, one driver was in a hurry exceeding the posted speed limit by 126 km/h," RCMP Cpl. Mark Kellock said in a Tuesday statement.
"These are speeds for a controlled race track, not for a 100-series highway," he added. "This could have easily resulted in a fatal collision given the high rate of speed the vehicle was travelling and the changing winter road conditions."
The incident occurred east of New Glasgow, NS around 5:30 a.m. Monday.

The driver was charged with stunt driving and his rental car, a Chevrolet Malibu, was towed and impounded for a week. His license has been suspended.
If convicted, the man could face a $2,418.95 fine.
