In pictures: A week later, Harvey's flooding remains

Friday, September 1, 2017, 11:58 AM - A week ago, southeastern Texas was feeling the full force of Hurricane Harvey, which had reached Category 4 strength prior to landfall.

The storm's intense rains dumped more than a metre of water on some parts of the state, setting off a major flood crisis that has turned deadly. More than 40 people have been reported dead as of Friday, with tens of thousands more evacuated.

The reason for the intense deluges was that Harvey was a very slow-moving storm, and even made a second landfall later last week. Its now post-tropical remnants are making their way through the Mississippi and Ohio Valleys, and though it has largely stopped raining in Texas, the storm still leaves behind extreme flood conditions.

Below are shots of the storm's aftermath, one week after landfall.
