Tuesday, March 10, 2015, 3:12 PM - A group of Belgian tourists hoping to go skiing in the French Alps took a 1,200 km detour due to a GPS error by the bus driver.
The bus departed from central Belgium and was supposed to drive to La Plagne, France, some 860 kilometres away. Instead it drove straight through the country, ending up near the border France shares with Spain.
"There are three entries for La Plagne in France, and I selected the wrong one," the bus driver told Studio Brussel radio station.
Passengers suspected the bus was headed in the wrong direction. They told the BBC they "had a hard time convincing the driver" he was headed for Spain.
"It was a sleeper bus, so when I woke up at first light, all I saw were vineyards. Nice, but very uncommon if you want to ski," a passenger told the BBC.
People on board used a map of France to convince the driver to turn around.
The bus arrived at the intended destination a day later and were treated to a Spanish-style dinner by the resort.
Many of the tourists told reporters they weren't bothered by the diversion.
