Tuesday, March 17, 2015, 9:57 AM - The quick thinking of an abandoned dog has helped save the lives of ten freezing puppies and their exhausted mother.
The Labrador mix, who has been named Hero, had spent weeks avoiding animal control officials who had been trying to retrieve him from a Dallas-area park.
On Tuesday, he ran up to two rescuers and barked incessantly.
When they moved towards him, Hero inched backward, still barking.

The pair followed the dog into the woods and came across ten, freezing puppies and their mother, who has been named Mona.
The eleven animals have been transferred to a loving foster home and Hero continues to keep a close eye over the family.
Animal experts say Hero could be the father, but that hasn't been confirmed.
