ABOUT BRIAN: I live in Cornwall and have a longtime interest in the natural world. While my focus is birds, I follow many aspects of natural history, particularly wildflowers and mammals. My interest in photography began in my teens when I purchased my first SLR camera and an inexpensive telephoto lens. I discovered that I had a talent for photography which was expanded on a professional level during my career. I am self taught. For many years I stuck mainly to tourism photography but have since returned to my roots, addressing the natural world once more.
I was late to the game shifting over to digital photography. In the early years it did not come up to the standard I was used to in 35mm but that has all changed. Today we have fantastic technology at our finger tips that can do things that were impossible not long ago. I am amazed that I can capture a bird in flight with such detail or to work in low light conditions in the woods and still come away with an acceptable result.
Photography for me is art. While not every shot will be perfect, especially since with wildlife I do not normally control all of the variables, I strive to create the best images I can. Each digital download is like opening presents at Christmas. The surprise is exhilarating.
