Paleontologists working in southern Argentina may have uncovered the biggest dinosaur to ever have walked the Earth.

The as-yet unnamed dino was a monster: 40 m from snout to tail-tip, 20 m tall at the shoulder and could have weighed as much as 77 tonnes, according to the BBC, which sent a film crew to the digsite in Argentina's Patagonia region.

That's based on the bones excavated by paleontologists from Argentina's Egidio Feruglio Museum of Palaeontology.

The team uncovered more than 1,500 bones, representing several individuals, after a farmer stumbled on signs of the beasts in the desert.

The previous holder of the title, Argentinosaurus, whose bones were also discovered in Argentina in 1987, was believed to weigh in at a paltry 70 tonnes.
