Tuesday, February 3, 2015, 2:49 PM - A major storm hit southern Ontario last weekend, prompting numerous school closures.
On Monday morning, Peel police picked up a 12-year-old boy in Brampton, Ont. outside of his school, which had been closed for the day due to the storm.
His parents had dropped him off, not realizing the school had been shut down.

A neighbour notified the authorities after watching the child stand outside, alone, for about half an hour.
Police took the boy home and left him in the care of his grandmother.
While he was unharmed, officials are taking the opportunity to remind parents to check for school closures during a storm prior to dropping children off.
