Monday, August 17, 2015, 5:54 PM - A rare tortoise named Roadrunner has managed to evade captors for nearly two weeks after making a run for it on August 4, his owner says.
Roadrunner's human family has been scrambling to locate him but he hasn't turned up yet.
Owner Ritesh Seth says the 6-year-old Russian tortoise is allowed to roam around the family's property in Christiansburg, Virginia. He usually follows Seth around, but he took off earlier this month while Seth was chatting with a neighbour.
The local police department has gotten involved by posting Roadrunner's poster on their Facebook page.
According to Seth, Roadrunner is about 6 inches long and friendly.
He is a land animal and can't swim, raising concerns that a well-meaning citizen will come across Roadrunner and place him in the water.
Seth and his wife Kajal purchased Roadrunner about a year ago. They are offering a $50 reward for his return.
“We are very much in love with him,” Seth said via the Roanoke Times.
