Rattlesnake leaves weather radar out of service

Wednesday, February 11, 2015, 11:56 AM - If the headline sounds to you like something out of Texas, you're absolutely right.

The radar was scheduled for an upgrade on Tuesday but at 7:34 p.m., local time the National Weather Service sent out a notification explaining that "due to complications involving a rattlesnake [...] the KGRK radar will remain down through the overnight hours and possibly into Wednesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service told NBC that a technician had gone down to the site on Tuesday with the intention of performing the upgrade. When he opened a cabinet containing computer equipment he encountered something that wasn't expected: a rattlesnake.

The technician didn't stick around. Instead he will return once Animal Control moved in, captures the snake and sets it free in a different location. This is expected to occur at some point today.

As of 11:45 a.m. EST, the Texas radar was still down.
