Here's how you can download a digital poppy

Thursday, November 8, 2018, 1:44 PM - Each November poppies are worn by millions of Canadians to remember those who fought for our country.

It's a tradition Canadians have upheld since 1921.

Now, with our digital world evolving, the poppy is too. To compliment the traditional lapel or collar poppy you're now able to download your very own digital version.

This is the first year digital poppies have ever been available.

The Royal Canadian Legion hopes it will encourage Canadians living across the world to join in our Remembrance period.

DIGITAL POPPIES: HOW IT WORKS

  • Head online to www.mypoppy.ca
  • Click on 'create my poppy'
  • Enter your email address and follow the prompts.

You can customize your poppy on one side and even dedicate it to someone on the other side.

The red poppy is a symbol of gratitude for veterans past and present, and while you create your poppy online donations can be made.

Your digital poppy can even be shared on social media platforms such as Twitter or Facebook.

“This year has added significance as we mark the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended the First World War," Royal Canadian Legion’s Dominion President, Thomas D. Irvine, CD tells us.

Remembrance Day is a federal statutory holiday in three territories: Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut and in six provinces including, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador.
