'War zone' scenes as EF-2 tornado rips through Pennsylvania

Thursday, June 14, 2018, 3:22 PM - Wilkes-Barre Township in Pennsylvania is being described as a "war zone" after major and damaging storms ripped through the area on Wednesday night. The National Weather Service survey conducted on Thursday confirmed damage consistent with an EF-2 tornado, with estimated maximum winds of 130 mph (201 km/h).
The official report cited numerous structures sheared completely from their foundations, with roofs and window destroyed. Power lines litter the street, with a shopping plaza hit especially hard. Dave Skutnik, the Regional Director of Communications for the Red Cross of Eastern Pennsylvania said that fortunately, there have been no fatalities, but a "few minor injuries" have been reported so far.

The tornado was on the ground for approximately three quarters of a mile (1.2 km), with a maximum path width of 200 yards (183 m). The threat for severe weather persists across the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest on Thursday with a "particularly dangerous situation" possibly unfolding.
