Monday, August 7, 2017, 3:20 PM - Environment Canada has confirmed last Friday's severe storms produced a third tornado, in the Huntsville area.

The twister occurred near the community of Utterson, which is about 13 km southwest of Hunstville.

"The tornado has been classified as an EF-1 with a maximum wind speed estimated at 160 km/h and a path length of 4.2 kilometres and a maximum width of 250 metres," the weather agency said on Thursday.

Environment Canada already confirmed one tornado in the same area, an EF-1 twister that touched down in Huntsville just before 4 p.m. Friday, damaging some properties and downing trees. About 15 km northeast of the town, a second tornado, rated EF-2, touched down about 20 minutes later.

"The tornado touched down about 17 kilometres northeast of Huntsville. During the storm damage survey it appears the tornado tracked about nine kilometers near Pell Lake northeast to Dotty Lake," Environment Canada said Monday. "The width of the damage path is estimated to range from 100 to 150 metres. The tornado caused extensive tree damage as well as structural damage to cottages."

Only Environment Canada can officially confirm a tornado, and a twister's estimated strength on the Enhanced Fujita Scale can only be determined after a damage assessment at the site.

Aside from the confirmed tornadoes, locally intense rain, funnel clouds, strong winds, and even a waterspout developed throughout the afternoon storms.
