Yet another round of rain targets B.C.

Sunday, November 13, 2016, 8:48 PM - The West Coast got a brief reprieve on Saturday for most of the day, but it was only a short breather before the next round of rain rolled in.

Rainfall warnings remained in effect Sunday evening, covering most of Vancouver Island.

"We expect the heaviest rains this evening for the South Coast," Weather Network meteorologist Tyler Hamilton said on Sunday, "with gusty winds peaking as well. Showers should ease early on Monday before yet another round of rain develops in the evening."

Hundreds of millimetres of rain has fallen on the region in successive waves so far this month, with Vancouver Island bearing the brunt.

Vancouver has already reported 77.4 mm of rain for the month of November (up to November 12th), while Abbotsford has seen 144 mm. November is traditionally the rainiest month of the year for the South Coast, and this year is on pace to exceed the climatic average in a number of locations.

As of Sunday evening, flood warnings remained in effect for the Campbell River and Somass River and tributaries, with high streamflow advisories elsewhere, though B.C. Hydro has reported few outages.

The many rounds of rain make flooding more likely, as the ground remains saturated and less able to absorb future rainfall, and forecasters say there's still more on the way, and soon.

There's more to come, though not as torrential. Weather Network meteorologist Erin Wenckstern says most of the rest of the week remains cloudy and cool, with some showers.

"Friday seems like the most likely day to be dry across the forecast area as a brief ridge of high pressure builds in. Saturday, another low is forecast to impact B.C.," Wenckstern says.
