Tuesday, July 12, 2016, 3:06 PM - A trio of women believed to be tourists have sparked outrage for swimming in a 17 century fountain in Rome.
Temperatures in Rome this time of year often teeter on the 40C plateau, with daily highs in the low-to-mid thirties, plus humidex -- but that doesn't mean swimming is allowed in the city's historic fountains.

Photos were snapped of the women taking a dip in the 400-year-old Fontana dell'Acqua Paola, which dates back to 1612.
People caught jumping into the fountain can face fines up to $288 CAD.

Still, the Mirror reports authorities did not confront the women and they are not being investigated for committing a crime.
An angry spectator took photos of the incident and uploaded them to Twitter, where they quickly went viral. Some locals commented their actions were disrespectful and rude, while others thought they were just having some harmless fun.
