Solar activity late in December resulted in a burst of charged particles hitting Earth's atmosphere more or less in time to ring in 2016, best viewed in dark-sky sites and rural areas.

In Canada, people on the Prairies, Northern Ontario and Quebec, and the northern territories especially benefited, among them Weather Network viewers with a love of the camera.
